Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

This morning Mary, Meredith, Quincy, Pinky and Trout were patiently waiting on the couch for present opening time.

Ava was happy with her perfume!

One of Jenna's presents was a new buddy for Meredith.. Her name is Sweet Sugar.
Amelia was very upset when Ava got a Kindle case and she didn't!  Her Kindle was coming!
Drew was happy with his photo blanket.

It is in the 60's here this Christmas and very, very wet!  We are on our way to Grandpa and Grandma's house!
Going to bed late anticipating Santa, waking up early to open presents, and a rainy car ride make for a great time to take a Christmas nap.

Girl cousins galore!

Scale

Jenna came home from school (today Winter Break begins)  saying that her teacher would be teaching weights and scales after break.  Jenna had to work all by herself on building her own scale this evening.

                                                      And here is Jenna's scale.

Drew Hospital Stay

This is not a fun post, but one I want on here for my reference!

Drew was very sick that first day.
Feeling better on day #2 with chest pt machine.
 Going home - Day 4!

Andrew had dental work done at Shady Grove Hospital under general anesthesia on October 22nd (Thursday).  He had one baby tooth pulled, a full set of xrays taken, teeth and gum cleaning, sealants and 6 small fillings.  He woke from that procedure just fine.  We were told by our dentist that Andrew would be fine for school the next day, but we should take it easy on food intake for that day.  He said he would be nauseous.  We didn't think too much about the procedure and the fact that Andrew did not want to eat that entire weekend, even his most favorite foods - potato chips, but once again we thought he was sore.  He developed a cough, well really the cough was there but we did not think he was sick, just had extra mucous only around meal times.  The following Tuesday, school called to tell me Andrew did not want to eat lunch and that he wasn't right.  I asked them to give it another try in a little while.  They did and he vomited, so I picked him up and he vomited one more time that evening after his bath.  Andrew stayed from from school the rest of that week with nausea and little eating - still not eating his favorite foods....I kept Drew home on November 10th.  He had vomited the night before.  Andrew went to the pediatrician on Monday November 16th, as his cough was stronger and more mucous was in the back of his throat, still not eating great.  The doctor prescribed an antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection, and a red ear, and prescribed a zantac after he listened to my complaints about his lack of appetite and his gagging and vomiting, foul breath and coated tongue saying he may have post op reflux.  On November 18th I got an emergency call from school.  They had called the ambulance for him saying they gave him diastat for a seizure that lasted over 5 minutes.  He seemed okay when I picked him up.  He has never had a 5 minute seizure.  We were on edge the rest of the week and have not seen that.. not sure if school saw the right thing.  I kept him home the rest of the week to watch for the weird seizure.  On Wednesday November 25th we ate Ledo's pizza and Drew vomited it up about an hour after eating it at dinner time.  Andrew made weird mouth noises and smacked his lips a lot the entire night, but did fall asleep.  He was fine on Thanksgiving day other than his nose was running, but I believe that was due to the candle scent which was burning right next to him in the kitchen on the counter.  His runny nose stopped that evening.  That night Andrew did the same smacking lip thing and the same gagging thing the entire night.  We put him in his chair a few times that night because he seemed very uncomfortable.  He got into my bed at about 5am and vomited across the bed onto the wall a large amount of brown liquid material.  We bathed him and brought him to Shady Grove where he had blood work done to show no anemia.  The doctor was going to send us home until Drew vomited blood two more times.  He ordered a chest x-ray and came back to say that Drew had inhalation pneumonia and would be admitted.  Drew was out of it that whole day with very, very low blood pressure and a slight fever.  He slept the whole day and night.  He woke up better even looking himself by the end of the day while in his chair.  He vomited two more times in the hospital but only after I gave him his liquid seizure med in the evening.  He got discharged on Monday night after we opted our of the upper GI scope.  We did not want Andrew to be irritated in the mouth further and did not want to put him under anesthesia again.  He also could not eat or take his seizure meds for an entire day while waiting for our test slot. The doctors said we could stay or go, we opted to go.  Hospital life is very stressful on everyone.

Ever since the procedure Drew has been very gaggy and nauseous after his bath.  This was not the case before.  We have really worked hard over these weeks trying to distract Drew when he seems like he is gagging and going to throw up which had become more frequent for sure.   We are on pins and needles.

Andrew was having a few good days.  Eating more, still gagging after the Felbatol seizure med, but no vomit until last night.  He vomited in his bed, and has barely eaten today and is smacking his lips again. See how the day goes.  We have a weekend full of meds to give (two antibiotics, a nausea med, and a reflux med and seizure meds) and a doctor appointment on Monday.
